Post Office News
| As regular users of the shop will have noticed, there have been some changes in the Post Office recently, along with some new faces. After nine years (yes, really) Ian and I have finally hung up our name badges and pinnies for the last time -well nearly- more later. The new owners are the Patel family. Hitesh and his wife, Shital run the shop at weekends, and Hitesh's brother, Chitran and sister, Ashmita (Ash) are in charge during the week. They have not run a village shop and Post Office before and will therefore need all the understanding and support you can give them in the weeks to come. We vividly remember our first few weeks in the shop. There seemed to be a thousand things to learn, names to remember, jobs to do; the only 'positive' side was that we had 16 hour days, 7 days a week to learn it in! Meals, sleep and family time became luxuries vying for the remainder of the time. I am sure we made plenty of mistakes, as anyone would; but, with time, we would like to think that the time and effort we put into the business has been a credit to the village, as well as our own satisfaction of a job well done. The baton has now been handed on to the Patels. With your support, they will continue to run a thriving amenity which the village can be proud of - goodness knows that there are not that many about any more, so it is a very precious commodity. We will shortly be moving to pastures new in Norfolk, but until then, I am still helping Chitran in the Post Office occasionally. So if you see me in the 'Box' for the next couple of weeks, I can assure you that it is only temporary - I am enjoying not getting up at 6 am far too much. That just leaves me to say thank you to all of you who have made our time in Greens Norton so full of good memories, those who have supported the shop, friends we have made and people we will never forget. We have had some amazing times and collected enough stories for at least a couple of books - no don't worry, I am certainly no writer. Bye Bye for the last time Pia |
