I am busy putting the finishing touches to
the programme for 2010. Discovering new
and interesting speakers for a WI that has
been running in the village for 50 years
can be an interesting challenge; it was
with relief we welcomed Jeanette Waite,
an experienced speaker and a favourite
from several years ago to our November
meeting. Jeanette provided a practical craft
based talk at an action packed evening.

In the past speakers have inspired us
to take up new hobbies and join village
organisations. A Tai Chi group was
started when Angela, who enjoyed a Tai
Chi night at WI so much, was inspired to
invite the speaker to run a short course.
That was two years ago and the group is
still going strong!

In a similar way I was inspired to join the
"Pocket Parkers" by Peter Warden's talk
about the wonderful work of the Pocket
Park Volunteers. Beth and myself like
nothing better than cutting back nettles
and brambles, wading in mud to clear land
drains and playing the grim reaper to the
invading Spanish bluebell. The team meet
on the first Sunday of each month and are
delighted to welcome new workers. Poppy,
my spaniel has the job of dispersing the
sticky goose grass seeds. which she does
with great enthusiasm and efficiency.

On the way to committee last night Jane
told me we will be competing in the
WI table skittle league again this year;
she has booked some practice dates at
the British Legion Club, who always
make us very welcome. By the time we
had finished drinking tea and eating
Victoria sandwich cake at Kathy's house
the snow was falling thick and fast. We
all intrepidly trudged home, looking
forward to a fresh year of WI.

Our meetings are held on the second
Thursday of each month at 8 pm at the
Village Hall. Visitors are welcome.
