Silverstone Industrial Development application rejected

Proposals to expand a small industrial site near Silverstone have been turned down by planners

This week South Northamptonshire refused an outline application for 10 commercial units covering around 3,650msq along with a solar park that would power the businesses, on land next to the Linnell's wood yard off the A413.

Cllr Roger Clarke, SNC's portfolio holder for planning and environments said: "The application comes from the owners of the wood yard which has expanded over the years and the council has supported them where it can.

"But with two solar parks already in that area, no evidence from the applicant that the commercial units are needed to sustain their current business, and concerns about the level of traffic from the site, we could not approve this significant and harmful intrusion into the open countryside."

Planning policy states planning permission cannot be granted for development in the open countryside without exceptional circumstances.

It was also agreed that the scale of this speculative development and prominence of the location, both the commercial units and solar park would constitute 'an adverse visual and industrialising impact on the area and surrounding landscape.'
