Summer activities beckon after half-term hit

The recent half term activity programme proved a hit with scores of South Northamptonshire youngsters, and preparations are now underway for another summer of fun.

South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) runs the activities to keep children busy and happy while they are off school.

There were over 80 attendances at the sessions which ran in Brackley during the recent half-term (beginning 29 May) the team behind them is now hard at work getting ready for the summer edition.

Booking for the summer activity programme opens on Monday, 25 June and an early bird discount of ten per cent will be available for people who book before Sunday, 1 July.

Cllr Karen Cooper, SNC's Portfolio Holder for Wellbeing, said: "For some, it can be tempting to spend half term holidays playing video games or watching TV, but the children who joined us for the half-term activities showed tremendous energy and enthusiasm, making the most of an exciting range of sports, games and arts sessions. A big thank you to them all for making the programme such a success.

"I'm now calling on South Northants parents to look out for the early bird offer we will be running for the summer activity programme, from 25 June. The six-week summer programme offers even more variety and choice and I think it will be the source of many happy memories for the district's children."

The programme centres on exciting multisports, arts and crafts sessions, as well as guest activities, which in the half-term included gymnastics, table tennis, fencing and table tennis. The council's youth activators, who will be running games of football, dodgeball and much more throughout the summer months, also delivered sessions.

The half-term activities took place at Magdalen College School, Brackley and a second venue, at the Gateway School in Tiffield, will also be hosting sessions over the summer holidays.

They will run from Wednesday, 25 July to Friday, 31 August and parents will be able to book their children in for anything from single days to the full six-week programme. There will be no activities taking place on 27 August, which is a bank holiday.

All sessions are run by CRB-checked staff, meaning parents can be assured that their children will be safe and happy throughout their time on the programme.

The summer timetable will be published from Monday 25 June at:
